Recent reports of children turning away from science and technology have given rise to fears of a crumbling of the foundations of manufacturing and innovation. As a result, the strategic development of human resources in the field of science and engineering to lead the future generations of Japan has become an issue. In order to counter such a social issue, the Hitachi Global Foundation is harnessing the resources of the Hitachi Group that drive social innovation to roll out support programs for the training of human resources in the field of science and engineering to tie in with existing programs.

“Girls in Science Support Project”On-site education programs and events run by female researchers and engineers employed by the Hitachi Group.
This project is designed to create interest in becoming a female researcher/engineer and motivate more girls to explore a career in the field of science and engineering and ultimately to contribute to the training of more females in this field.
With the cooperation of companies under the Hitachi Group umbrella, the Hitachi Global Foundation is holding science seminars for children. These seminars are aimed at conveying the skills and knowledge the Groups' researchers/engineers have acquired through their experiences in manufacturing in a way that is interesting to children to enable them to experience the fun of science. The seminars will focus on a variety of themes based on the characteristics of each of the Hitachi Group companies to create an enjoyable, interactive forum for learning.
The Hitachi Global Foundation provides grants for the All Japan Science & Technology Competition and the All Japan Junior Science & Technology Competition run for student teams from high schools and junior high schools across Japan. They also present the “Hitachi Award” at these events.
The Hitachi Global Foundation also supports the “Hitachi Youth Invention Club” in Hitachi City with the aim of nurturing a sense of creativity in the field of science among young children.
