Interview

Please tell us about your current occupation or activities.

My research in computational biophysics centers on elucidating biomolecular dynamics and interactions through advanced molecular simulations. I develop and apply enhanced sampling techniques, notably Parallel Cascade Selection Molecular Dynamics (PaCS-MD) combined with Markov state models, to investigate complex processes such as protein–ligand binding, dissociation pathways, and conformational transitions.
Recent studies include modeling the inhibition mechanisms of SARS-CoV-2 endoribonuclease and exploring the conformational landscape of the adenosine A2A receptor during G protein coupling. Additionally, I integrate machine learning approaches to prioritize and understand AI-generated cell-penetrating peptides, aiming to advance biomolecular modeling and contribute to drug discovery efforts.

How have scholarships or awards influenced your career and life?

Scholarships have profoundly shaped my career and life. During my PhD, the Hitachi scholarship enabled me to learn advanced computational biophysics methods and connect with leading experts in the field. This support not only strengthened my technical skills but also broadened my academic vision. Additionally, participation in research projects funded by MEXT/KAKENHI to my PhD supervisor’s laboratory gave me valuable opportunities to attend international conferences and engage in collaborative research. These experiences laid the foundation for my current global network, fostering strong connections across Japan, Vietnam, and beyond, and have been instrumental in guiding my path as a researcher and collaborator.

If you have any favorite Japanese words, Japanese songs, or places in Japan, please share them along with a brief episode.

I fell in love with the Japanese song Mori no Chisana Restaurant because it evokes a deep sense of peace and wonder. When I listen to it, I feel as if I’m wandering through the tranquil paths of the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest in Kyoto, surrounded by towering green stalks and soft filtered light. The background music is incredibly charming, blending gentle melodies with natural sounds that create a dreamlike atmosphere. This song captures a magical stillness that reminds me of Japan’s quiet beauty, making it a personal escape and a musical reflection of my most cherished memories in nature.

If you have any memorable experiences or impressive events during your study abroad or research, please share them.

One of the most memorable experiences during my study abroad was joining cultural and social events organized by the Hitachi Global Foundation. These events offered a unique chance to explore Japan’s culture and industry while connecting with other scholars. I still vividly remember the summer trip to Yamaguchi prefecture, where we visited the Kasado Works and learned about Hitachi’s technological innovations of the Shinkansen. The trips to Sado Island and to Kyoto and Nara, especially the visit to Todaiji Temple, left a lasting impression on me.
These experiences enriched my life beyond academics, helping me grow both personally and professionally through cultural immersion and networking.

If you have any other message you would like to convey to the Hitachi Global Foundation Scholars, please share it.

To all former Hitachi Global Foundation Scholars, I encourage you to cherish every moment you experienced through this journey. Beyond academic growth, this opportunity offered a unique chance to connect with inspiring people, experience Japan’s rich culture, and explore new perspectives. The friendships, cultural experiences, and support you gained through the program will stay with you for life.
I’m truly grateful for the foundation’s support, which helped shape my path. Keep learning, connecting, and growing together.
